Investors go for hotels in Prague

The year 2019 was a record one for the Prague hospitality sector in terms of transactions: the amount of investments in hospitality properties exceeded €500 million. This is the highest figure in history and twice the average for the last five years. This is also the first time that the Czech Republic has made it to the Top 10 in the European hospitality investment chart – to number nine. In 2020, the volume of hospitality transactions could become twice as high – €1 billion, according to Cushman & Wakefield.

Union Investment buys two hotel projects in Poland

Union Investment has agreed to acquire two planned hotel properties in Kraków and Katowice with a total of 527 rooms. The developer, vendor and future operator of the two midscale hotels, which are scheduled for completion in autumn 2021, is UBM. The purchase price of the ibis Styles-branded hotel in Kraków and Mercure-branded hotel in Katowice is approximately €86 million in total. Both leases run for 25 years.

BCR sells Bucharest historic palace for €30-35 million

Romanian bank BCR has completed the sale of the historic Oscar Maugsch Palace, located on Bucharest’s Universitatii Square, to the Luxembourg-based Vivion Investment Fund, controlled by Isaac and Amir Dayan from Israel. Accor sells 85.5% stake in Orbis to AccorInvest for €1 billion

Accor has entered into a binding agreement to sell its 85.8% stake in Orbis to AccorInvest at a price of PLN 115 per share, corresponding to proceeds for Accor of €1.06 billion (PLN 4.55 billion), in line with Orbis’ Gross Asset Value. This completes the Orbis transaction, following the acquisition by Accor of Orbis’ Management and Franchise business last October for €286m.

New leases

  • A 200-square-metre Office Shoes store offering branded women's, men's, and children's footwear has opened in the Forum Gdańsk shopping centre. This is the chain's first shop in Gdańsk.
  • IWG has leased 906 sqm for a new Regus space in VOX Technology Park in Timișoara.
  • Auchan will open a new 7,000 sqm hypermarket at the end of next year in Sun Plaza, the shopping mall owned by CPI Romania. This move is part of a broader strategy to reposition Sun Plaza, which will undergo a phased modernization process starting in June. The space was previously leased by Carrefour.

New appointments

  • CBRE Romania has announced the promotion of Ramona Hîrnea to the role of Head of Investor Retail Leasing for its national operations. With over 22 years of experience in commercial space leasing, Ramona brings a comprehensive perspective on the retail market, gained both from her position as a consultant for property owners and as a representative of tenants.
  • Marcin Janik has taken up the position of head of the southern Poland region at CBRE. He will be responsible for Silesia, Małopolska and the previously serviced Wrocław.
  • GTC Group has appointed Miklos Egri as Chief Operating Officer. The new manager will be responsible for the company's day-to-day operational and administrative management in the Central and Eastern European markets.
