SES partially opens retail park in Kaposvár, Hungary

On Thursday, 11 March, SES Spar European Shopping Centers opened S-Park Kaposvár, a new retail park in Southern Hungary. As a result of a renewed lockdown in the country, only those stores that are deemed essential for the provision of basic goods and services to the population have been allowed to open. These are a 6,800 sqm Interspar store, a 600 sqm dm drugstore and a 150 sqm Ofotért optical retail store. S- As soon as official Hungarian regulations permit, all other stores located at S-Park, such as Hervis, Deichmann, Euronics, Pepco, and Kik will go into full operation. The segment and shop mix, which includes 10 stores, covering a leasable area of 11,200 sqm, will deliver a comprehensive range of brands and services to Kaposvár and the surrounding region.

Ikea opens first store in Slovenia

Swedish furniture group Ikea is set to open its first store in Slovenia in Ljubljana today. To ensure a safe shopping experience and avert long queues in front of the store, Ikea has mandated advanced bookings for in-person shopping in the first weeks following the opening. The number of visitors is capped at 700 with Ikea estimating that they will spend roughly two hours on average browsing around the store.

Tirana’s brutalist landmark to undergo major renovation

Construction has started on the Pyramid of Tirana, the brutalist monument in the heart of Albania’s capital city. Rotterdam-based architectural studio MVRDV's design will see this crucial heritage building, once the showpiece of Communist dictator Enver Hoxha, dramatically renovated. The concrete structure will be reused, the atrium and its surroundings greened and opened, and a small village of cafes, studios, workshops, and classrooms – where Albanian youth will learn various technology subjects for free – will permeate the site, both inside and outside the pyramid itself. The Pyramid is thus expected to become a new hub for Tirana's cultural life and a carrier for the new generation.

New leases

  • A company specialising in the logistics sector, providing goods warehousing and transportation services, has leased a total of over 5,000 square meters of modern space at the MLP Czeladź logistics centre. The transaction was brokered by the consulting firm Rock Estate.
  • Skanska announced the expansion of its tenant portfolio in the Equilibrium 2 office building in Bucharest by welcoming ONV LAW. ONV LAW will occupy approximately 640 sqm in Equilibrium 2, with the move-in scheduled for December 2025.
  • EPP's Outlet Park Szczecin, the only outlet centre in Western Pomerania, is strengthening its fashion offerings by signing agreements with three brands previously unavailable in the region. JACK & JONES and Evenemen, with their men's fashion collections, and the premium optician OUTLY, have already opened their stores. eobuwie will also join the tenant roster this fall. VENEZIA, TATUUM, WITTCHEN, and Pako Lorente are also continuing their partnerships with the centre, significantly expanding their stores, while Lee Wrangler and German Optiker are moving to new locations. The new agreements and extensions cover a total area of nearly 1,800 square meters.

New appointments

  • Justyna Filipczak has taken up the position of Executive Vice President of the CEE residential segment and joined YIT's management team.
  • Avison Young's Valuation and Advisory team in Poland has welcomed a new member, Michał Marynowski, who takes the role of Assistant Valuer. Among other experiences, he worked at the Court of Appeal in Warsaw, where he was responsible for verifying execution documentation for selected investments, updating data in the premises database for court buildings, and analysing tender bids. Proficient in GIS, AutoCAD, and Revit, he also has strong skills in interpreting planning documents.
  • Golden Star Group, an international investment firm operating in the real estate sector, has announced the promotion of two key specialists within its Polish team. Paweł Moczybroda has been appointed Group Chief Financial Officer, while Ewa Dragunajtys has been promoted to Head of Asset Management.
