Cordia to hand over 800 homes in Hungary in 2021

Hungarian residential developer Cordia plans to hand over a record number of homes this year in Hungary. Thanks to an expanded government family support scheme and the re-introduction of a 5% VAT rate on residential property, the company expects sustained strong demand and will therefore increase its offer by more than 800 new homes as part of several developments. Work is continuing uninterrupted while protective measures are observed, with full online customer service introduced last year.

New home sales pick up again in Budapest

Budapest’s housing market is becoming more eventful for used and newly-built homes alike as sales have started to pick up in early 2021. As a result, developers sold more than 1,600 new homes between December 2020 and February 2021, nearly half the total number of new homes sold last year. At this rate, total sales figures may even double this year. As usual, most new homes were sold in Budapest's District 13, but the Inner Pest districts have also attracted large numbers of buyers. Data from the Budapest Housing Market Report by Eltinga and Ecorys reveals the number of new homes sold early this year in various locations.

Trei Real Estate increases development volume to €1.2 billion

Trei Real Estate’s development portfolio grew by 33 percent to €1.2 billion in 2020 from €900 million in 2019. The sum total breaks down into €1.0 billion in residential real estate and c. €200 million in retail real estate. The proprietary portfolio of Trei maintained its total of c. €1.2 billion and it includes 349 assets.

Czech developer Horizon closes record year

Czech development group Horizon has a record year behind it, despite the uncertainty and difficult conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, the company's total revenue from the sale of 337 units in five different projects reached €100 million (CZK 2.7 billion). Horizon plans to build around a thousand more units this year and will put another 550 apartments on sale.

OTP provides €63 million loan for Budapest resi project

Hungarian lender OTP Bank is providing the largest project financing loan to date for the development of the Duna Terasz Grande apartment complex in Budapest. According to the financing agreement signed recently, OTP provides a HUF 23 billion (appr. €62.8 million) loan for developer D&B Ingatlanfejlesztő-Group. The 790-apartment project is the largest waterfront residential development in the 13th district. It will be handed over in 2023.

New leases

  • Revetas Capital announced that Bonarka for Business “B4B” has secured a lease extension contract with a company of Hitachi Group - GlobalLogic. The company, a leader in digital product engineering, has been a tenant in B4B since 2016 and leases in total of 6,500 sqm of office space in Building F.
  • GTC has extended its lease for 1,700 square meters of office space with pharmaceutical company Egis Polska. The company will continue its operations in the Corius building at the Aeropark Business Centre in Warsaw.
  • IMSAT, a company that offers integrated engineering, electrical, automation, and industrial technology solutions, has expanded its office space, within Bucharest-based The Bridge office building, to 3,800 sqm. The deal was brokered by Cushman & Wakefield Echinox.

New appointments

  • GTC has announced the appointment of Sebastian Junghänel to the Management Board as Chief Operating Officer, effective 2 September 2025. With more than 18 years of experience in the real estate sector across Germany and CEE, Sebastian brings strong expertise in asset management, project development, ESG and innovation. His career includes co-founding ZEITGEIST Asset Management, where he built a €1 billion portfolio, and senior management roles at HOCHTIEF Group. At GTC, Sebastian will focus especially on the oversight of our portfolio in Germany, which includes, includes 5,200 residential units in Kaiserslautern, Helmstedt, Heidenheim, and surrounding areas. His know-how will also support our development projects in Central and Southeastern Europe.
  • Justyna Filipczak has taken up the position of Executive Vice President of the CEE residential segment and joined YIT's management team.
  • Avison Young's Valuation and Advisory team in Poland has welcomed a new member, Michał Marynowski, who takes the role of Assistant Valuer. Among other experiences, he worked at the Court of Appeal in Warsaw, where he was responsible for verifying execution documentation for selected investments, updating data in the premises database for court buildings, and analysing tender bids. Proficient in GIS, AutoCAD, and Revit, he also has strong skills in interpreting planning documents.
