Construction of the Emonika complex in Ljubljana has entered its next phase, marked by a groundbreaking ceremony hosted by OTP Group at the project site. As Slovenia’s largest real estate development, the complex is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. Property Forum was on site to report from the ceremony.

The Emonika site has been earmarked for redevelopment for more than 17 years. It was initially a project of Budapest-based TriGranit, and it was later taken over by OTP Group. Over the past five years, Mendota Invest d.o.o., a member of the OTP Group, has led the planning, permitting, and preparation of the project, working closely with public institutions at both the national and municipal levels. More than a year of groundwork has already been completed.

With the groundbreaking ceremony, the project transitions from preparatory works to full-scale construction. The event was attended by Dr. Sándor Csányi, Chairman of OTP Bank; Alenka Bratušek, Minister of Infrastructure; Matjaž Han, Minister of the Economy, Tourism and Sport; Rok Žnidaršič, Deputy Mayor of the City of Ljubljana, and Alfred Watzl, member of the board of Strabag, the general contractor of Emonika.

Sándor Csányi said in his speech: “This groundbreaking marks the end of a long wait – and the beginning of a new chapter for Ljubljana. Emonika will become a city within the city, combining quality of life with modern infrastructure, and blending heritage with forward-looking development. We are proud to play a long-term role in this transformation.”
