Bergam Design House will manage the renovation process of Grand Hotel Bucharest, former Intercontinental Bucharest, as part of an €21 million investment that will be completed in 2024. 

A long-vacant iconic building on Almássy Square in District 7 of Budapest, which previously housed a leisure centre, will be transformed into a 135-room hotel, Építészfórum reports.

Due to COVID restrictions, hotel occupancy in Prague dropped down into the last positions among 35 metropolises in Europe. Nevertheless, for hotel operators, Prague is still the most attractive city in the CEE region. According to top market players, the sector should recover by 2024, says the latest Cushman & Wakefield report.

Hilton decided to open six new DoubleTree by Hilton hotels in Europe, including two in CEE: one in Budapest and one in Brasov.

Cushman & Wakefield presented the findings of its survey conducted among executives representing over 30 leading international hotel operators in its latest report. The survey was completed in December 2021 by hotel operators with a presence or interest in entering the CEE region.

Hotel investments in Romania are starting to recover and only in Bucharest four hotels were sold for an estimated €19.2 million during 2021.  

Christie & Co’s annual business outlook for 2022 notes the hotel sector’s different developments in Germany, Austria, the Nordics and the CEE region. The key challenges were caused by the correlation and dependence of destinations with their source markets and the varying Covid-19 numbers. 

The growing interest in domestic tourism is conducive to the development of accommodation facilities in resorts. Interesting city hotels are also opening. The current year should bring stabilisation in the hotel industry as more countries move from treating COVID as an endemic rather than a pandemic, says Walter Herz. 

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts announced its entry into Poland with the 205-room Wyndham Wrocław Old Town. Managed by Mogotel Hotel Group the hotel is expected to open early next month and will be located in the heart of Wrocław's city center.

UBM Development Czechia has completed the reconstruction of the more than 100-year-old former Cukrovarnicky Palace on Senovážné Square in the centre of Prague. The 176-room five-star Andaz Prague hotel will open in the historic building, marking the Hyatt chain’s entry into the Czech Republic. The hotel will be put into trial operation in early 2022.
