After several years of financially demanding renovation, the five-star Fairmont Golden Prague hotel, formerly InterContinental, has opened, reports newstream.cz.
The renovation, which took approximately five years, was originally expected to cost around CZK 2.7 billion (€108.8 million). However, due to the poor condition of the building, it has risen to around CZK 4 billion (€161 million).
Part of the hotel opened in April 2025, followed now by other areas: the Greenhouse restaurant, a conference hall, a terrace on the ninth floor and a presidential suite. The hotel has 320 rooms in total. The average price per room per night is €600 to €700.
The InterContinental Hotel was the first international five-star hotel in former Czechoslovakia. It was built in the brutalist style between 1968 and 1974. Since its privatisation in the 1990s, it has changed owners several times and has undergone a gradual renovation of the rooms, restaurants, lobby and wellness centre. The hotel was purchased in January 2019 by the investment company R2G.
