The owner of the Máj shopping centre on Národní Street in Prague, Amadeus Real Estate (ARE), closed the children's playground on the building's roof in August due to missing permission and is now also closing the indoor playground named Lvíčkov (Little Lion Land), reports E15.cz.

"The effort to revive the centre of Prague with activities for families with children, for which there was a public demand, turned out to be more difficult to achieve in reality," the operator explained on the social network. The Máj department store in Prague opened to the public on June 24, 2024, after roughly two years of renovation. SC Máj offers shops, entertainment centres, and a rooftop terrace on nine floors. During the reconstruction, the owner focused more on entertainment and attractions for various age groups. Now it proved as a step aside.

In mid-August, the owner of the recently renovated Máj department store in Prague had to remove a completely new outdoor children's playground from the building's roof, which was built there without a permit. Following the original building permit, an approved area for parking will be created on the roof instead.

Even before the opening, two giant moving butterflies with a body imitating a spitfire fighter by the artist David Černý, which the owners had installed on the facade of the building, caused controversy. After the opening, the interiors of the entertainment centres on the upper floors of the department store received criticism from some architects and parts of the public.
