7R is developing a logistics centre for Pepco in Barniewice, near Gdańsk. Under a long-term agreement, Pepco Polska has leased more than 51,000 sqm of warehouse space together with office facilities in the project.
Pepco is a European discount retailer offering clothing, toys and home products. Its stores operate in more than 4,100 locations across 18 European markets, and the company employs more than 31,000 people across Europe. The company uses intermodal transport in its logistics operations, and has until now operated five distribution centres across Europe. The new facility in Barniewice will increase its operational capabilities.
"This investment marks the development of Pepco's sixth distribution centre and represents another step in building a more scalable logistics network. The new distribution centre near Gdańsk will strengthen our logistics capabilities in a strategically important part of Europe," said Javier Rubio Fueyo, Pepco Global Sourcing and Supply Chain Director.
The 7R Park Gdańsk V facility is in Barniewice, 2.5 km from the S6 Tricity Metropolitan Bypass and 18 km from the Baltic Hub container terminal in Gdańsk. The ports of Gdańsk and Gdynia, as well as Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport and its cargo terminal 4 km away, facilitate international distribution. The general contractor is Mirbud.
"Access to deep-water seaports, road and rail infrastructure, and the role of an intermodal hub in the Baltic Sea region have made the Tricity area a logistics hub supporting trade between Northern Europe and Central and Eastern Europe. Pepco has consistently expanded its network across Europe year after year, and the facility we are developing is an important element of this expansion," said Marzena Taube, Leasing & Development Director, North-West Region at 7R.
Pomerania holds a position in Poland's warehouse market, with more than 1.96 million sqm of warehouse space, and 7R has delivered more than 640,000 sqm of industrial space across the region to date, including 212,000 sqm in Barniewice.
