Panattoni is completing a logistics centre for non-food discount chain Action in Bieruń with an area of 60,800 sqm, of which more than 58,000 sqm will be warehousing space. The BTS facility, which should be ready in September this year, will improve the company’s logistics processes for southern and central Poland, as well as across Europe. The investment is to be BREEAM certified at the ‘Excellent ‘level.

Non-food discount chain Action has been undergoing rapid expansion across Poland. After four years of operations, more than 130 stores now operate under the brand in Poland, where the company now expands further into the country as well as opens new outlets in the largest cities. The growing scale of its activities also requires the expansion of its logistics infrastructure. Panattoni is about to deliver a project in Bieruń - a BTS facility with an area of 60,800 sqm, including as much as 58,200 sqm of warehousing to accommodate the company’s projected growth along with 2,500 sqm of offices and social rooms. The facility’s main function will be the storage of the retailer’s various product lines, including interior decoration, office items, home and interior furnishings as well as hobbyist, fashion and sports goods. Panattoni is scheduled to finish the project in September this year, and for the requirements of the logistics processes to be carried out in the building it has included (among other features) a concrete mezzanine and an ADR storage area.

On the new project in Bieruń, Marek Foryński, Panattoni’s BTS Managing Director, comments: ”Action has been expanding very rapidly in Poland and moving into new local markets. Because the expansion of its network has been so dynamic, the company needs trusted and experienced business partners who can guarantee stability and the necessary know-how. Panattoni, as a leader in the industrial sector, can be relied upon for this, and our team specialising in the most complex BTS projects is now providing Action with flexible support and space designed for the processes it carries out, as well as a location for the markets it serves.“ For over a year, Panattoni has ensured that all its facilities are BREEAM certified at least at the ‘Very Good’ level as standard. This year, the company has gone a step further and opted to certify selected investments at the ‘Excellent’ level. The latest of these is the logistics centre for Action. For this project, Panattoni will install, among other sustainability features, photovoltaic panels, solar collectors for heating the water and charging stations for electric cars. Certifying developments at the ‘Excellent’ level forms one of the key planks of Panattoni’s sustainable development strategy for 2021. In the next few months, Panattoni will ensure that facilities with a total area of 3 million sqm are supplied with renewable energy. By 2025, the developer plans to become carbon-neutral and meet the goals of the Paris Agreement 25 years ahead of its schedule.

This is the latest BTS facility to be developed by Panattoni, i.e. for the specific needs of the tenant. So far, the developer has delivered more than 3 million sqm of this type of space, and more is under construction. The latest projects include just completed 40,000 sqm production plant for Leviat in Kalisz or BTS facility for Animex Foods in Ostróda and construction of a factory in Rzeszów for US firm BorgWarner. BTS projects have also been developed for Amazon, BSH, DSV, DPD, Flextronics, GE, H&M, Kellogg’s, K-flex, Knauff Industries, Leroy Merlin, Bombardier, Pilkington, Recticel Komfort Snu, Faurecia, Sauer Danfoss and Hydroline, among many others. This has included both production space and large distribution centres adapted for e-commerce requirements.
