The workforce is changing, and Generation Z is leading the way. This generation, born between 1997 and 2012, is now entering the workforce in large numbers, and it is characterized by its unique values and aspirations, according to Maria (Tudorică) Jianu of Genesis Property. 


It is essential to understand that Generation Z will represent a third of the entire global workforce by 2025. 

Some of the most important elements for Generation Z are flexibility and work-life balance. Gen Z's demand for flexible schedules reflects a broader shift in how work is perceived. It underscores the growing recognition that a holistic approach to work-life integration is crucial for employee satisfaction and productivity. 

Generation Z also seeks purpose and fulfillment in its work, driven by a strong desire to create a positive impact on the world. They are drawn to companies that align with their values, fostering a sense of shared purpose and contribution. A company's stance on social and environmental causes holds enduring significance for Generation Z, as revealed by a recent survey initiated by us at Genesis Property where for 51% of employees, it is important that their employer is involved in environmental protection, and 48% would prioritize working in a company active in actions for the community. 

Within the office environment, the Generation Z cohort displays a preference for dedicated workspaces that offer privacy and room to focus. Their ideal workspace emphasizes comfort, thoughtful design, ample natural light, and seamless access to technology. 

How can employers help Generation Z thrive? 

Employers who want to attract and retain employees from Generation Z must create a workplace that is ready to meet their needs and expectations. This includes providing meaning in everyday work, flexibility, and a comfortable, well-designed physical space. 

Here are some specific things that employers can do to create a pleasant workplace for Generation Z: 

  • Generate meaningful and impactful work opportunities: Generation Z wants to feel like they are making a difference in the world. Employers must provide opportunities for them to contribute to meaningful projects that align with their values and make a positive impact on society. 
  • Allow flexible work arrangements: Generation Z values flexibility and work-life balance. It is necessary to allow them to work hybrid or on a flexible schedule, as long as the young people meet deadlines. 
  • Infuse Nature and Natural Light: Incorporate greenery and ample natural light into the workspace. Generation Z appreciates environments that connect them to nature and boost their overall well-being. 

In fact, according to a Steelcase study, 73% of Generation Z members believe that space is very or extremely important for the efficiency of the company for which they work. 

Tips for attracting and retaining Generation Z talent 

In addition to the above, here are a few other things that employers can do to attract Generation Z: 

  • Blend Technology and Efficiency: Gen Z's innate comfort with technology is accelerating the integration of digital tools and platforms into daily work processes, pushing for more efficient and innovative ways of operating. 
  • Ensure a culture of learning and development: Generation Z is always looking to learn and grow. They need professional development programs and mentorship opportunities so they can continue to expand their skills. 
  • Diverse and Inclusive Environment: Generation Z puts emphasis on diversity and equity, so the workspace must, in turn, be inclusive and welcoming for anyone. This will help everyone feel valued and foster a sense of belonging. 

Generation Z is changing the paradigm of the workplace, some would say more than any other previous generation. The pandemic had a profound influence on their outlook, shaping a clear and pragmatic approach to the factors that most influence their job satisfaction. Strong leadership that can inspire, and provide mentorship, while creating a healthy and inclusive company culture, will make a paramount difference for Generation Z. As for the office site, Generation Z is, in fact, the group that believes most strongly in the added value of the workplace after the pandemic, recognizing its potential to improve organization connectivity, and increase their prospects for career advancement. 

Understanding and catering to these needs and expectations of Gen Z employees can significantly enhance job satisfaction, leading to greater engagement, productivity, and long-term retention.

  • XXS GYM has signed a lease for over 850 sqm of space in the modern O3 Business Campus office complex, located on Opolska Street in the northern part of Cracow.

  • Czech investment group SCF has expanded its team by appointing Jan Simandl as Senior Leasing Team Leader. In this role, Simandl will oversee leasing activities across the company’s commercial property portfolio. He previously worked for CPI Property Group and CBRE.
  • Michał Kochanowski-Laren has joined Avison Young Poland’s Technical Advisory and Project Management team as Project Manager. In his new role, he is responsible for delivering a variety of consultancy projects across all segments of the commercial real estate market in Poland. Kochanowski-Laren is an electrical engineer and a graduate of the Warsaw University of Technology.
