Českomoravská Nemovitostní has tested facade cleaning of its commercial buildings using drones. They are replacing suspended structures and chemicals.
The method promises to reduce costs by almost half, increase safety and minimise environmental impact. Drones use nozzles with demineralised water heated to 70 °C, which eliminates the need for aggressive chemicals. This approach protects the environment and the facades themselves, for example, in heritage zones, where chemicals could damage historic plaster.
“The Churchill building, with its larger area, was an ideal place to test this technology on a larger scale. I must say that we were surprised by the results. The tenants were satisfied and passersby stopped to watch how the drones work,” says Petra Vondrová, Senior Property Manager of the Churchill building.
Traditional facade washing using rappelling carries the risk of accidents when working at heights. The drone is operated by a team of two people – a pilot and a safety technician, which saves money on human resources.
"CBRE also participated in the testing and is now deploying this technology in some of its buildings," concludes Vondrová.
