Brexit can’t stop investors in CEE

Commercial real estate investment remained strong across Europe in Q2 2016 totaling €54.0 billion, up 2.5 per cent on Q1 2016 and 30.4 per cent on the ten year average. Investment into CEE countries for H1 2016 registered a substantial increase (59%) compared to same period of last year, reaching almost €5 billion. Expectations are that for the entire year, investment volumes will reach and exceed the record volumes of 2015, with all CEE countries expected to perform strongly.

Property investment volumes slightly down in CEE

Investment into Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries (excluding Russia) for Q1 2016 registered a slight decrease (6%) compared to the same period of last year, reaching €1.84 billion, CBRE’s research shows. Expectations are that for the entire year, investment volumes will reach and exceed the record volumes of 2015, with all CEE countries expected to perform strongly.

Hungary lifts ban on Sunday shopping

On 11th April, the Hungarian government announced their proposal for parliament to abolish the standing law regarding Sunday closing for retail units. The proposal has already passed through voting in the Parliament on 12th April, theoretically allowing stores to open from Sunday, 17 April 2016. The decision comes little more than a year after the legislation came into effect in March 2015, and is likely a direct consequence of recent developments having paved the way for a referendum on the widely criticized policy. According to CBRE’s experience this is a highly appreciated change in legislation by the industry.

New tenants in Skanska’s Nordic Light office building

HARMAN International and BASF Hungária Kft. has signed lease agreements with Skanska. The Swedish developer’s Nordic Light office building in Budapest now has preliminary lease agreements for 26% of its total leasable area. Colliers represented the tenants in the transactions, while CBRE takes exclusive responsibility for leasing Nordic Light.

New leases

  • Laboratoires Théa, a leader in the European and Polish ophthalmology market, has joined the tenant roster at the LIXA C office building in Warsaw. The company’s local subsidiary, Théa Polska, has leased nearly 1,000 sqm of modern office space on the first floor of the building owned by Yareal Polska.
  • IWG has opened a new Regus work space at Sky Tower, Chișinău. The company has opened a 1.000 sqm space on the first floor of the office building.
  • Strategy has extended its lease agreement for office space in the Skyliner office building in Warsaw, part of the Karimpol Group's portfolio. Strategy occupies 1,500 sqm of office space on the 22nd floor of Skyliner I and was the building's first tenant.

New appointments

  • Michał Stępień has joined MDC2 as Investment Director. He has over 20 years of experience in the real estate industry, gained at Savills, where he worked in teams dealing with valuation, research, and investment advisory. Over the last few years, he has focused on the industrial and logistics sector, advising on market strategy, asset positioning, and investment decisions.
  • Rob Jones has joined CTP as Head of Investor Relations and PR, having previously led the European Real Estate Equity Research team at BNP Paribas. Jones will be working closely with Group CFO Richard Wilkinson and Maarten Otte.
  • CTP Romania has named Bianca Liulea-Stamate as Marketing Specialist. She has previously worked at DB Schenker for more than seven years.
