Marriott International signs new hotel in Vlorë, Albania

Marriott International has signed an agreement with Vlora Marina to open a new dual-branded property comprising a new hotel under the Marriott Hotels brand and Marriott Residences available for private ownership. Situated in the coastal city of Vlorë, the new build property will benefit from a prime waterfront location in the heart of the city as well as being a part of Vlora Marina investment. The new build complex is expected to debut in 2028

Meliá Hotels to grow its presence in Albania

Meliá Hotels International is continuing on its development path throughout the Mediterranean and aims to take advantage of growth opportunities in Albania. After beginning its expansion plan in the country in 2017, Meliá has now announced its fourth hotel: the Sol Dürres Hotel, located in the second most important city in the country and one of its key tourism development centres. Tirana’s brutalist landmark to undergo major renovation

Construction has started on the Pyramid of Tirana, the brutalist monument in the heart of Albania’s capital city. Rotterdam-based architectural studio MVRDV's design will see this crucial heritage building, once the showpiece of Communist dictator Enver Hoxha, dramatically renovated. The concrete structure will be reused, the atrium and its surroundings greened and opened, and a small village of cafes, studios, workshops, and classrooms – where Albanian youth will learn various technology subjects for free – will permeate the site, both inside and outside the pyramid itself. The Pyramid is thus expected to become a new hub for Tirana's cultural life and a carrier for the new generation.

Balfin Group invests €180 million in new Skopje project

Albanian company Balfin Group has acquired a 155 000 sqm plot of land, 1.5 km from the centre of Skopje. The company plans to develop the first mixed-used real-estate development project in excess of 250,000 sqm gross build area, estimated to be largest private investment of this type in Macedonia. The development plans include a new 45 000 sqm gross leasable area shopping mall, residential block and an office park. The overall total investment of the company is planned to be circa €180 million over a time-span of 5-7 years, with €100 million investment in first phase, creating thousands of new jobs and opportunities. The company states that the shopping mall will be developed first, and the apartments and office towers over the next 5-7 years.

New leases

  • A fintech company has leased nearly 2,600 sqm of office space in the LIXA D building, which is being erected as part of an office complex near the Warsaw’s Daszyński Roundabout. The new tenant will occupy over 25% of the building’s commercial space.
  • Develia is moving its headquarters from Arkady Wrocławskie to the City Forum complex at 45 Traugutta Street in Wrocław at the beginning of March this year. It has leased around 1,400 sqm in the City 1 building. A new flat showroom of 280 sqm will also be opened on the ground floor. Develia's advisor in this process was the international company CBRE.
  • The District Labour Inspectorate in Gdańsk will move its headquarters to the Palio Office Park B office building located on the site of the Gdańsk Shipyard. The institution will rent more than 1.7 thousand sqm on two floors in the facility.

New appointments

  • Aleksander Loster has been appointed as Director in Savills Poland investment team, headed by Mark Richardson since 2023. In his new role, he will be responsible for working with international investment funds during the sale and acquisition of retail, industrial, warehouse and alternative assets.
  • Piotr Wilewski joined Walter Herz Investment Advisory Department as Land Acquisition Manager. He is responsible for acquiring land projects, preparing analyses of investment potential and searching for ways to build real estate value.
  • GTC Group appoints two people to head up its shopping centres in Poland Anna Borecka will take over as director of Galeria Jurajska in Kraków. Meanwhile, Marek Ciszewski will take the helm at Galeria Północna in Warsaw.
