FedEx has opened a new logistics centre in Košice, strengthening connections between eastern Slovakia and international markets. The facility, the company's second-largest location in Slovakia, spans nearly 1,000 sqm and features 18 loading ramps for pick-up and delivery, plus four flexible loading positions for both vans and long-haul vehicles.

The centre handles both parcel and freight shipments and is connected to long-distance transport routes. Process optimisation means couriers depart an average of 45 minutes earlier than before, while international shipment processing time has been halved.

"Košice represents another significant step forward for FedEx and its customers in Slovakia," said Nebojša Vasiljević, managing director ground operations, Eastern Europe and the Nordics at FedEx. "Reliable logistics can be decisive for the success of both large manufacturers operating on international markets and smaller firms just starting to export. This investment helps businesses in eastern Slovakia connect with global trade opportunities faster and more efficiently than ever before."

According to a recent FedEx survey, 85% of Slovak SMEs already trading internationally plan to expand into additional markets, placing Slovakia among the most ambitious SME markets for international expansion in Central and Eastern Europe, alongside Poland. "Slovak firms have strong offerings and real potential to succeed internationally," Vasiljević added. "They need a partner who simplifies the process — we provide customs advice, logistics solutions and full shipment visibility."

FedEx employs more than 180 people in Slovakia and operates eight locations nationwide, connected to its main hubs in Germany, France and the Netherlands. The Košice centre is part of a broader expansion programme that has also included new facilities in Nitra and Trenčín in recent years. Globally, FedEx connects more than 2.5 million senders with over 200 million recipients daily across more than 220 countries and territories.
