The Duna Plaza shopping centre in Budapest will undergo a comprehensive renovation as part of an investment by Indotek Group. The redevelopment will expand the building beyond existing retail areas to include community meeting and experience centre functions, with construction expected to begin in early 2027 and the mall reopening in 2029.
News of the renovation first emerged in January at a CBRE press event, where 2028 was mentioned as the reopening date. When asked for clarification, Indotek provided an official response stating the project timeline.
The Duna Plaza has been operating for more than 25 years, and through the planned development, Indotek aims to increase the unit's market share and operate it as a mixed-use centre. The renovation will affect both retail areas and office spaces belonging to the complex.
The project already has building permits and secured financing. "Until construction begins in early 2027, we are focusing on finalising detailed interior design plans and concluding tenant agreements," said István Hüse, real estate development director at Indotek Group.
Indotek confirmed that the comprehensive renewal project is progressing steadily, with support from both the 13th District and the National Architectural Design Council. "Based on current knowledge, we project the start of construction and temporary closure of the building for January 2027," the company stated. The development will be carried out by Magyar Ingatlanberuházó Zrt., which belongs to Indotek Group.
