Mayor of Siret
Adrian Popoiu has served as Mayor of Siret since 2008, leading the city’s development and representing one of Romania’s most strategically positioned communities on the border with Ukraine. With a professional background spanning public administration, finance, healthcare management and local economic development, he has extensive experience in managing public institutions and delivering complex development initiatives. Prior to becoming Mayor, he held senior roles including Head of Budget and Accounting at Siret City Hall and Manager of Siret Hospital. Throughout his career in local government, Adrian Popoiu has been actively involved in numerous EU-funded projects covering industrial infrastructure, urban regeneration, healthcare, education, tourism, utilities and cross-border cooperation. His experience includes projects developed through Romania–Ukraine–Moldova cross-border programmes, as well as initiatives designed to strengthen Siret’s long-term economic and social development. He holds a Master’s degree in Management and Legislation in Industry, Administration and Services from the Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iași and a degree in Finance and Accounting from Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași. As Mayor of a key Romanian gateway to Ukraine, Adrian Popoiu brings a local-government perspective to discussions around regional development, cross-border connectivity, infrastructure investment and the economic opportunities emerging along Romania’s eastern border.
