Attila Gorbai, General Manager of Tennant Company in CEE, spoke with Property Forum about the portfolio expansion of Tennant’s robotic cleaning machines following their integration into Tennant Company and the company’s vision to expand their role in the floor care market across the CEE.

What does Tennant Company's entry into the CEE market mean for the industry?

Tennant Company’s arrival in the CEE market has been highly anticipated and we have prepared extensively for this moment. For our business goals, Tennant’s expansion represents an opportunity to introduce everything the company stands for to the CEE market. This includes the portfolio of robotic cleaning machines that Tennant has launched in 2017, positioning Tennant as a leading premium brand to pioneer this technology.

Clients in the CEE region will now have access to the full range of Tennant’s esteemed cleaning equipment. Additionally, we aim to boost our market presence by offering our comprehensive IPC portfolio, providing cleaning professionals with a complete suite of equipment and solutions.

General Manager
Tennant Company in CE

Attila is a leader and entrepreneur, an expert in the cleaning industry, with a business developed since 2005, integrating ESG factors in the general activities model even from the beginning, since the company pioneered in CEE a reconditioning centre for cleaning machines in Cluj by focusing on equipments life cycle. The focus of current projects is providing sustainable cleaning solutions for large areas, circular economy and robotics for the cleaning machine industry. Tennant Company recently acquired M&F Management and Financing GmbH (“M&F”), the parent company of Tenrom, as Tennant seeks to accelerate growth in the EMEA region. The acquisition gives Tennant a knowledgeable and experienced sales force and an established direct channel into countries including Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, and Slovakia, along with an expanded network in Austria, Switzerland, Poland, and other nations in the region, as well as the Middle East and Africa. More »

What is the vision for business development across CEE countries for Tennant Company?

Starting in March 2024, Tennant Company has established a direct presence in the CEE market, with fully launched operations in key countries such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania. Concurrently, we will be collaborating with dealers in other countries to strengthen existing partnerships and open new opportunities for dealerships, direct sales and services organizations.

Our goals are well defined: to be a leading player in the robotic cleaning machine market and to build the best service network in the region. we also aim to support our long-term partners with exceptional support.

Regionally, we plan to integrate the Tennant portfolio based on three key pillars. Firstly, we will focus on expanding our robotic cleaning machines, which are already deployed in Romania, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, and will continue to grow our presence throughout the region.

Secondly, we will emphasize the IPC brand, offering a comprehensive range of products for building maintenance and cleaning including tools, vacs, high-pressure washers and an extensive line of floor cleaning solutions.

Thirdly, we will develop further our rental business and our RECON capabilities. With a strong commitment to equipment life cycles and the principles of the circular economy.

What trends do you see in the professional cleaning equipment market?

A significant trend in the industry is the rise of robotics and autonomous machines. With specialized suppliers already established in the market, Tennant is now making a strong entry into this segment. Last April, we held a launch event in Bucharest to showcase Tennant’s range of robotic equipment. We have already deployed the first units in prominent locations across Romania, demonstrating our rapid gain of relevant experience and effective training in implementing cleaning robots. We will continue advancing in this area, driven by consistent demand.

Moreover, we are proud to announce that on October 11, we will be a partner at a major regional cleaning conference hosted by the Hungarian Cleaning-Technology Association (Matisz). At this event, Tennant Company will demonstrate for the first time in CEE its full line of robotic cleaning machines, including our flagship X4 ROVR model. We invite all professionals from CEE countries to come and explore the latest trends in the cleaning industry.

Furthermore, we are observing a growing interest in rental cleaning equipment paired with comprehensive services, catering to companies looking to invest wisely without incurring significant expenses.

How do you support the sustainability objectives of your clients?

Since 2012, Tennant cleaning machines have been refurbished in our Cluj-based RECON CENTRE. In this centre of excellence, we rebuild machines to provide the best equipment for our clients while minimizing waste and maximizing materials reuse

For industries seeking sustainable cleaning solutions, reconditioned cleaning machines are an excellent option. We’ve also observed increased demand for technologies that conserve water and reduce detergent usage. Tennant meets this need with our NanoClean technology, which is integrated into most of our cleaning robots. NanoClean enables these robots to clean using only one-third of the water typically required and eliminates the need for detergent.

How do you see the real estate market evolving this year?

I am optimistic about the future. In sectors such as retail and industrial spaces, we are witnessing a growing demand and the emergence of new locations. This trend represents a fantastic opportunity for the market.
