Hungary votes on changes in law on public construction

The Hungarian Parliament voted in favour of the law on the public construction and investment regime with 136 votes in favour, 49 against and 9 abstentions. The law, among other things, makes the use of BIM mandatory for projects at or above the EU public procurement threshold, requires greater control over design and construction than before, and puts the whole life cycle of public works on a new footing.

Czech National Development Bank might build rental flats

The Czech government wants to involve the Czech National Development Bank (NRB) in the construction of affordable rental housing. The cabinet is also planning to amend the law on the State Fund for Investment Support (SFPI), which supports housing development in the Czech Republic. This is to support the government's commitment that up to 10,000 extra rental flats could be built per year by the end of the parliamentary term. Newly approved building regulations in Slovakia will significantly reduce the endless waiting for building permits. Thanks to advanced digitalisation, the individual processes and the timeframes for their execution are shortened. Builders will thus be able to calculate the capital invested and the entire work schedule more accurately. CMS Poland hires 10 lawyers for real estate practice

International law firm CMS has bolstered its real estate and construction practice with the addition of a team of 10 lawyers in Poland. CMS will be joined by three respected partners, each with many years of experience and an established market reputation: Agata Jurek-Zbrojska, Małgorzata Madej-Balcerowska, and Dominik Rafałko. Agata Jurek-Zbrojska will head CMS’s real estate and construction practice in Poland, which she will manage in close co-operation with partners Lidia Dziurzyńska-Leipert – who leads international development for CEE Real Estate, Michał Mieciński, Małgorzata Madej-Balcerowska, and Dominik Rafałko.

New leases

  • A Bricomarché shop has opened in the Karuzela shopping complex in Biała Podlaska (Poland). This is the chain's first outlet in the city. The store occupies an area of over 3,000 sqm, the outdoor garden a total of 1,500 sqm, and a special building shed another 600 sqm.
  • A shop of the international brand Jysk has opened in Galeria Północna in Warsaw. The store will occupy an area of 1,500 sqm. This is the chain's three hundredth outlet in Poland.
  • A Change Lingerie women's lingerie store has opened in Gemini Park Tarnów (Poland). The premises occupied by the brand is 100 sqm in size.

New appointments

  • At the beginning of April 2024, Barbara Tomaszewska took over as Director of the first Aiden by Best Western in Łódź, Poland. She was previously Deputy Director at Golden Tulip Gdańsk Residence.
  • Oriol Casellas Deig has been appointed CFO of Redport Capital. He also joined the Board of Directors of the Romanian development company. Deig has over 20 years’ worth of experience in real estate.
  • InPost has appointed Javier van Engelen as Group CFO. He is an experienced manager, an expert in finance, who has held CFO positions in a number of international companies.
