Office-based corporations see no meaningful savings despite WFH

Despite almost all European office employees working from home last year the empty workplaces did not lead to a reduction in the expenditure that companies had to fulfil had the workforce been in the office. The average costs per FTE fell by only 2% and amounted to €9,468. These findings have been published by Colliers, Occupier Cost Index (OCI), which comprises data from 29 countries, 3,990 buildings, 26.1 million square meters of office space and 1.96 million FTEs.

Hungary to create flexible home office regulations

Employers may not unilaterally order employees to work from home even in case of a strong resurgence of coronavirus infections and this would require a mutual agreement under new remote work rules that can now be considered final. Home officing would also be supported by a lump sum payment of overhead costs to the tune of HUF 16,100 (around €45) per month, tax-free. There are, however, still question marks regarding health and safety issues, local daily Magyar Nemzet reports.

New leases

  • dm-Pharmahandel, the Czech subsidiary of the German drugstore chain dm-drogerie markt, will open a specialised logistics centre for the distribution of over-the-counter pharmaceuticals at CTPark Bor. The company will occupy a nearly 7,100 sqm facility.
  • Spanish fashion retailer Mango has opened a new store spanning 400 sqm in Iulius Mall Suceava. This is the third Mango unit in Iulius' network.
  • Laboratoires Théa, a leader in the European and Polish ophthalmology market, has joined the tenant roster at the LIXA C office building in Warsaw. The company’s local subsidiary, Théa Polska, has leased nearly 1,000 sqm of modern office space on the first floor of the building owned by Yareal Polska.

New appointments

  • Michał Stępień has joined MDC2 as Investment Director. He has over 20 years of experience in the real estate industry, gained at Savills, where he worked in teams dealing with valuation, research, and investment advisory. Over the last few years, he has focused on the industrial and logistics sector, advising on market strategy, asset positioning, and investment decisions.
  • Rob Jones has joined CTP as Head of Investor Relations and PR, having previously led the European Real Estate Equity Research team at BNP Paribas. Jones will be working closely with Group CFO Richard Wilkinson and Maarten Otte.
  • CTP Romania has named Bianca Liulea-Stamate as Marketing Specialist. She has previously worked at DB Schenker for more than seven years.
