Romania Sotheby's International Realty has reduced the asking price of Cantacuzino-Ghica Castle in Deleni, Iași county, by €50,000, bringing it to €750,000. The Class A listed manor and its park of more than four hectares are being offered for conversion into hospitality, wellness or private residential use.
The castle dates to around 1730, when it was built on the site of an earlier residence by the Cantacuzino-Deleanu family. In 1778 the estate passed to the Ghica family following the marriage of Maria Cantacuzino to Constantin Ghica. At the start of the twentieth century, the building was remodelled by Nicolae Ghika-Budești, an architect associated with the neo-Romanian style. Soviet troop occupation during 1944 to 1946 caused significant damage, and after nationalisation the property served successively as a cultural centre and a tuberculosis sanatorium for children.
The agency is also marketing several other historic properties in Romania. The former Turda Brewery in Turda, Cluj county, built between 1756 and 1814, is listed at €2,690,000. Originally known as the Mendel Brewery and later as the Turdeana Brewery, the classified industrial monument retains decorative brickwork, original timber and metal joinery, an industrial chimney and a corner tower.
Cula Voiculescu, an 18th-century fortified dwelling in Oltenia, is available for €1,100,000. The property sits on 10 hectares and is representative of the cula type of construction, built by noble families as both residences and places of refuge. Conacul Gussi in Leordeni, Argeș county, is listed at €390,000. The manor was rebuilt in 1938 to 1939 by Alexandru Gussi and was nationalised after 1949.
Also on the market is the Birăuaș winery in the D.O.C. Miniș wine region, offered at €690,000. Wine has been produced on the site since 1801, and the estate held the status of official supplier to the Imperial Court in Vienna. The current property includes three cellars, two residential buildings totalling 380 sqm, a production building of 210 sqm and approximately 200 sqm of vaulted cellars.
