Moxy Budapest Downtown has opened its doors in central Budapest, marking the debut of Marriott International's lifestyle brand in Hungary. The hotel is located on Kazinczy Street in one of Budapest's cultural districts.
The 281-room hotel occupies a former ballet institute site in Budapest's historic Jewish quarter, now a creative and cultural hub. The design concept by Austrian BWM designers & architects reflects the location's past through ballet and movement themes, while incorporating references to Empress Elisabeth (Sissi). The lobby features a large graffiti artwork by Áron Hidvégi, connecting Budapest's historical character with contemporary creative energy.
Following the Moxy Hotels concept, guests check in at the Bar Moxy bar counter with a welcome cocktail. The hotel includes modern rooms with functional design, a 24/7 fitness centre, and two meeting spaces. The rooftop cocktail bar, Saddle & Sky Budapest, draws inspiration from Sissi's passion for horse riding and will be complemented by future street-level dining concepts.
The project was developed by Hungarian-founded Forestay Group, contributing to the urban renewal of Kazinczy Street and its surroundings. The development aimed to create a mixed-use urban environment combining hospitality, dining, culture and community spaces. The hotel achieved Breeam Excellent certification, featuring energy-efficient building systems, solar panels, and more than 80 electric car charging stations.
