Romanian investor Aurel Muntean has revived plans for Unirea Business Center in central Bucharest after a decade-long standstill. The revised scheme will offer 27,000 sqm of leasable office and retail space, with completion targeted for Q2 2028, Profit.ro reports.

Located behind Unirea Shopping Center, the development will transform an unfinished communist-era food market complex. Construction is scheduled to restart in Q1 2027, with building services design nearing completion.

The revised plans envisage offices with ground-floor shops across four above-ground levels, with floor plates of approximately 6,500 sqm. Parking provision will comprise 307 underground spaces and a further 45 outdoor spaces.

Work originally began in spring 2012 on a shopping centre intended to provide up to 30,000 sqm of retail space, but stopped in 2016. The reactivated project shifts the focus towards offices.

Muntean also owns the Împăratul Romanilor hotel chain and Bucharest’s Victoria department store, where design work for the historic building’s modernisation is underway.
