Sam Markey is Founder and Managing Director of Recurve, an advisory firm that equips place leaders and their partners to navigate change and drive enduring economic renewal. He is developing the UK–LatAm Investment Bridge with investor partner Acacias Capital, connecting Latin American capital to UK regional opportunity, and is co-author of Local Power, Global Reach, a toolkit on organising for inward investment and international partnership produced for Invest in UK University R&D. Earlier this year he authored Partnering for Place, the handbook for strategic authorities on mobilising the impact economy, and is working to enable deeper partnerships between purpose-driven capital and UK regions. Sam is also Senior Associate for Place-Based Impact Investing at the Impact Investing Institute, where he was lead author of the Social Impact Investment Advisory Group's final report to HM Government and co-author of Place-Based Impact Investing: Ambition to Action. His career spans twenty years across all levels of government and the technology sector: a senior advisory role in the Prime Minister's Implementation Unit, Head of Insight at the London Borough of Barnet, and a decade at Connected Places Catapult, where he led programmes to upskill place leaders in attracting investment and cross-sector collaboration. He co-chaired a taskforce at the World Economic Forum's Centre for Urban Transformation on public procurement. Sam's work focuses on what makes a place investable: the capability, connectivity and public-private groundwork that turns urban potential into capital committed.
