The Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Romania) will host the 12th edition of the Cities of Tomorrow conference on October 24-25, 2024. This year’s event will be held in Oradea, in partnership with Oradea City Hall, and supported by Bihor County Council and Visit Oradea. Property Forum is the media partner for this exclusive event.

For the first time, Cities of Tomorrow #12 will dedicate a day to best practice examples and visits to projects and companies in and around Oradea on October 25th. The conference itself will take place on October 24 at Oradea Citadel. The traditional thematic round tables will be held online from October 14-18.

“Our flagship event, dedicated to the sustainable development of Romanian cities and regions, is starting its tour of the country. The time has come for Romania’s most important cities to host it, showcasing a wide range of best practice examples and highlighting their potential," said Sebastian Metz, General Manager of AHK Romania.

The round tables will cover topics such as urban safety, circular economy, building law, digitization and governance of cities, mobility, tourism, lifestyle and culture, energy efficiency and management, financing and European funds, reconversion and revitalization, and work-life balance. Participants will discuss each theme for two hours and can later implement some solutions in their current or future projects.

The conference provides a unique platform for the exchange of ideas, concepts, and knowledge between the public and private sectors, bringing together business and government.

The on-site visits offer the perfect opportunity for the transfer of know-how, providing insights into strategy and its implementation, detailing local challenges and success stories, and discussing future development plans for both businesses and cities.

Furthermore, Cities of Tomorrow REGIONAL brings the concept of the post-infrastructure city to public attention. It emphasizes addressing issues beyond mere physical construction and development, focusing on integrating advanced technologies, promoting sustainable mobility, strategic urban planning, energy efficiency, circular economy, and social equity to ensure a healthy and prosperous urban environment for future generations.

The event will be preceded by a project competition dedicated to those with innovative ideas for sustainable urban development in public administration, civil society, or business.

The finalist projects, selected by a jury of representatives from central and local government, urban planners and architects, NGOs, journalists, and international experts, will be promoted, presented, and awarded at the conference.

Cities of Tomorrow is AHK Romania’s annual flagship event dedicated to urban and regional development. Its aim is to encourage the sustainable development of the country, promote measures to increase Romania’s competitiveness and attractiveness for new investments. The event serves as a platform for the exchange of ideas, concepts, and best practices between the public and private sectors, which can then be transformed into projects and partnerships with concrete actions and results.

The conference provides valuable information and new perspectives for city halls, Romanian and foreign private companies, urban utilities and infrastructure companies, representatives of regional development agencies, municipal and county councils, urban planning professionals and architects, real estate investors and developers interested in and/or based in South East Europe, real estate professionals, representatives of chambers of commerce and industry, industry clusters, technology providers, NGOs, and banking professionals.

The carbon cost is already in your building. You just can't see it yet

by Property Forum
A structural shift is rewriting the financial logic of European commercial real estate. It isn't being driven by ESG pressure or voluntary sustainability labels. It's being driven by regulation — and the numbers are concrete enough that ignoring them is becoming a financial risk. A recent white paper by workcloud24 traces the mechanism in detail: how the operational energy and CO₂ performance of a building transmits into net operating income, asset value, and financing conditions. The argument isn't that green buildings are virtuous. It's that inefficient buildings are becoming measurably more expensive to own, operate, and finance.
